R A E N Optics | Through the Eyes of Alex Kopps

This video look book features some of my favourite humans in the world; Jason Salisbury, Michael Spencer and Ellis Ericson. All captured in one weekend.

…i watch it and feel all gushy as though ive taken way too much ecstasy and i just wanna hug crew. I love it that much (and you too).

Shot to perfection by Nicholas Damen. Subscribe to him on Vimeo, he’s gonna be the next big thing.

So much love,

No im not slow off the mark, i totally realise this has been out for over a week now, but shazam its rad…and Thom Pringle oozes a unique style that the youngsters are just craving for. He’s a little elusive too, making him all the more powerful (marketing wise) for a company such as Insight. The Australian brand’s new web-dealio is also quite buttery…and a solid ‘onya’ goes to Riley Blakeway who throws together a decent clip these days.

R A E N OPTICS CAMPAIGN 2011

Alex Knost, Alex Kopps, Kassia Meador, Nate Tyler and Ellis Ericson all spent a weekend together on a rustic coastal property (complete with yurt) a few weeks back; surfing, sluggin’ beers and campfire story-telling to put together an interesting little R A E N Optics campaign for the new year of ‘11.

Must say, the eyewear from R A E N is beautifully handcrafted and doesn’t really follow trends, moreso marching to the beat of their own high class drum. From their Flowers by A.K piece to their collaboration with fashion designer Alexandra Cassaniti, they’re the kind of frames you pick up, place delicately on your face then feel awash with an overwhelming desire to make purchase of the product - from the weight of the luxury acetate to the strength in those all important hinges; the quality is bankable.

COMUNE is in the midst of building a look book and catalogue for their Fall 2011 US range. Shot up in the San Simeon/Big Sur area of Northern California - in my mind, one of the most beautiful and moody places on earth (ie. fog). COMUNE is one of those emerging labels building unique garments with a focus on timeless quality whilst retaining an air of industrial flavour, an aesthetic they are becoming well known for. The effort (note: love for their work) that the marketing crew over there at the COMUNE brand are putting in on a continuous basis is highly evident. You only have to check out their Drop City artist roster or their yearly commitment to an original concept like the Karlsen Tea Party  - and therefore the brand is gaining some solid organic growth and deserved press. Muchas respect to them.

COMUNE drops in Australia around March 2011, with a smallish, exclusive 1st Winter delivery.

Necklaces really aren’t my thing. Something about walking around with my shirt unbuttoned by three from the top, with a piece of man jewellery hanging garishly off of a few stray chest hairs, just looks token wankerish to me. I do have a penchant for anchors though. And this is probably just the maximum amount of bling i could ever handle. Non-shiny and beat up….so me likey.
